A five-day trip to Bhutan from Bangkok breaks into four costs: the return flight (from THB 31,869 all-inclusive economy on Bhutan Airlines), the Sustainable Development Fee (USD 100 per adult per night — USD 500 for five nights), the visa (USD 40, once), and your land arrangements (hotel, licensed guide, transport and meals). Travelling as a group of ten or more brings the flight down to a group return fare from THB 29,500.
Most Bhutan cost guides are written in US dollars for American readers and can only estimate the airfare. This one is in baht, from Bangkok, using the real fare we sell as Bhutan Airlines' General Sales Agent in Thailand. Figures are current at August 2026 and quoted as starting prices; we confirm the live number for your dates in writing.
The four things you are actually paying for
Bhutan pricing feels opaque until you separate it into buckets. Two are fixed government charges you cannot avoid or negotiate (the SDF and the visa). One is the flight, which we can quote exactly. The last — land arrangements — is the flexible part, where your choice of hotel standard moves the total up or down. Once you see it this way, budgeting becomes simple arithmetic.
The flight: real Bangkok–Paro fares
This is usually the largest single number, and the one other guides guess at. Bhutan Airlines flies the Airbus A320 from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Paro International Airport (PBH), with some routings via Kolkata (CCU):

The SDF and the visa: the fixed government fees
These two are the same for everyone and set by the Bhutanese government, not the airline:
- SDF: USD 100 per adult, per night. For five nights that is USD 500. Children aged 6–12 are half; under-6s are exempt. The USD 100 concession holds until 31 August 2027.
- Visa: USD 40 per person, one-time.

Land costs: hotels, guide, transport and meals
Because Bhutan requires a licensed guide, your land package bundles the guide, a driver and vehicle, hotels and most meals into a per-day rate. This is the flexible bucket: a comfortable three-star farmhouse-and-hotel trip sits at one level, while five-star lodges are a different world of pricing. The number of travellers matters too — a guide and vehicle shared between four costs far less per head than between two.
A sample five-day budget, per adult
Putting the fixed pieces together for one adult on a five-night trip:
- Return flight, Bangkok–Paro: from THB 31,869 (all-in economy).
- SDF: USD 100 × 5 nights = USD 500.
- Visa: USD 40.
- Land arrangements: quoted to your chosen hotel standard.
So before hotels, the firm outlay is THB 31,869 plus USD 540 per adult. We deliberately do not bury the USD fees inside an invented exchange rate — you pay the SDF and visa in dollars, and you can check the day's rate yourself. The flight is the number we can pin down in baht, and it is the biggest one.
How to bring the cost down
Three levers move the total honestly.
