Your itinerary

The essential first circuit — Paro's valley and monastery paired with two nights in the capital, moving between the two at an easy pace with your guide and private driver throughout.

  1. Day 1 · Arrival in Paro

    Arrival & the Paro valley

Fly into Paro International Airport — one of the world's most scenic approaches, banking between forested ridgelines into a valley at around 2,200 metres. Your guide and private driver meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After time to settle in and adjust to the altitude, set out on a gentle orientation walk along the Paro river, past the white walls of Rinpung Dzong, with a first stop for butter tea.

  2. Day 2 · Paro valley

    Dzongs, museum & ancient temples

A full day exploring the valley. Begin at the National Museum in the round Ta Dzong watchtower for an introduction to Bhutanese art, textiles and Buddhist history, then walk down to the 15th-century Rinpung Dzong, a working fortress-monastery of whitewashed walls and gilded roofs. In the afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakhang — one of Bhutan's oldest and most revered temples, said to date from the 7th century.

  3. Day 3 · Thimphu

    Over to the capital

A scenic hour-and-a-half drive brings you to Thimphu, the world's only capital without traffic lights. Stand beneath the giant Buddha Dordenma looking out over the city, browse the weekend market for handicrafts and produce, and visit the imposing Tashichho Dzong, seat of the government and the central monastic body. There is time for Thimphu's craft workshops, the memorial chorten and a relaxed evening in town.

  4. Day 4 · Return to Paro

The climb to the Tiger's Nest

Drive back to Paro for the trip's highlight: the hike to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest, clinging to a cliff around 900 metres above the valley floor. The trail climbs steadily through blue-pine forest hung with prayer flags to a viewpoint teahouse, then on to the monastery itself — most walkers take four to five hours round trip at an unhurried pace, with ponies available for the first stretch. Celebrate the descent with a well-earned lunch.

  5. Day 5 · Departure

    Departure

A relaxed morning before your private driver transfers you to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. Timings can be shifted to suit an earlier or later departure.
